On this day in 1847 legendary Dracula author Bram Stoker was born in Ireland. While he wrote a total of 12 novels in his lifetime, his most famous work by far was Dracula. Published in 1897, the book garnered critical success initially but did not achieve peak popularity until well after Stoker’s death. The story of Dracula would go on to inspire authors and filmmakers for centuries with such standouts as 1922’s Nosferatu and the 1931 namesake, starring Bela Lugosi. Bram Stoker died in London, England on April 20, 1912.
